1st week of school

So, I finished my first week of classes and...let's say that this semester is going to be really tough. The only thing that might save me is that I don't have any friday classes.

It's been such a range of emotions so far...

Annoyance -- I drive 7 hours to Charlotte and there are no keys for me to get into my appartment.

Overwhelmed -- class schedule is pretty sick, let me just say Art History Methods requires reading and a response from a different book each class...

Tired -- trying to work out or play tennis after class is so hard for me. I might be the most brittle person ever! Thankfully it's still pretty warm outside.

Nervousness -- 1st time conditioning with the team - wanting to do my best

Pumped up - Second day at practice -- finished the campus run in 17 min -- (I think it was about 2 miles and really hilly!)

Excited -- had people at the appt during the week

Tired -- then had to get up at 6:30 to do reading before my 8AM class

Lonely -- being alone in the appt and really missing home

Ok, you get the point. Anyway, it's the first day of my 3 day weekend. Hopefully, I will get some work accomplished BEFORE Sunday...which will be a struggle for me. Monday, we start hitting and I hope my work over the summer pays off this year. That is what I hope for the most.

Understand a few things:

You have always been able to handle multi-tasking, especially when it includes balancing mounds of schoolwork, studying, lab work and tennis all in the same day.

You are a senior and you've seen it all, done it all, when it comes to semester overload. Sure, the classes might be different, more challenging and maybe even more time-consuming, but you're prepared. You've had three years leading up to this to get ready for the final push. Add to that your internship this summer while still practicing at an extremely high level and you know that you can do this.

As for tennis, that part's easy. I have more knowledge than anyone in that department meaning I know you're prepared. Try not to get caught up in wins/losses and results; Close your eyes, visualize things going well on the court, anticipate things going well on the court and stay as loose as possible during points and drills and just let things happen. Let the points just come to you...

Remember, you're ready mentally and physically without school interfering, so also understand your mind and body might get more tired as the season goes on because you're balancing a lot on your shoulders day-to-day with your classes.

But you know we're all back home supporting you. We're here if you need anything when it comes to emotional re-assurance, strategic tips and anything else that might come up. And please know I'm here for you especially if you need anything about your game or support when things in your life get crazy. I haven't always been as much as I had liked.

Keep your head together. Breathe. Exhale. Find your happy place. And just go kick some ass!
